Martin was commissioned by Scottish Shorts and Creative Scotland to make SEAGULLS, his fourth drama short. The film has been made by Screen Productions in association with DigiCult and Hopscotch Films.
SEAGULLS had its World Premiere in competition at the Berlin International Film Festival, where it was nominated for the Crystal Bear for Best Short Film. The film won The Golden Reel Award for Best Short Children's Film at the Tiburon International Film Festival California, Won the Outstanding Achievement Award from the State Of California Senate at the Borrego Springs International Film Festival in California, and has screened at over 50 film festivals to date, picking up Best Short Film Nominations in 20 International Competitions.
Martin was delighted to work with producer Sarah Drummond, executive producers Paul Welsh, Carolynne Sinclair Kidd and Ross McKenzie, cinematographer David Liddell, casting directors Kahleen Crawford & Caroline Stewart from Kahleen Crawford Casting and costume designer Carole K Fraser. The film was developed from a screenplay and characters Martin has been developing with Creative Scotland.
Post production took place at Rushes London, with the grade by long term collaborator Simone Grattarola. Sound design was by John Cobban at 422 Glasgow. The poster was specially designed by Jen Davies in advance of the Berlinale screenings.
